I follow a ton of fitness influencers on IG and with that comes a flood of inspirational posts and stories everyday. Normally I just tap/scroll through them to try to get to videos of snatches, deadlifts, and FAILS (my guilty pleasure).
But today was different…I woke up this morning having no energy to get to the gym. My 8 month old woke up at 3AM and took FOREVER to go back to sleep. This is a problem since I have to be out the door by 4:30 AM to get my fitness in and that 1 hour of sleep makes a huge difference. All I wanted to do was get back into bed and sleep but what did I do? I scrolled through IG of course (which I don’t recommend BTW) and I came across this quote “A mushroom can grow overnight, an oak tree cannot”. I don’t know if it was the sleep deprivation but for some reason that motivated me to get up and train.
My takeaway from that quote wasn’t even fitness related but more about what type of role model I want to be for my boys. I want to set the example for staying dedicated to something that they have a passion for is important in life. It can take time to become the person you want to be and that idea of what type of person can change and that’s ok. I want my boys to look up to me and want to grow up to be like their dad.
They say inspiration can come from anywhere. If you feel like you’ve lost yours take a good look around, it may just be in your next IG story.
